Title: CourseScheduler

Description: The project CourseScheduler has a goal to provide support for planning and showing the course scheduler for MDU courses. The idea is to use this program when planning courses and their scheduling for the next year.
If successful the program can replace the system that exist today which is an manual system.

CourseScheduler should include the following elements:

a) Entering data
It should be possible to enter data about the courses, including type of the events (lectures, labs), the total amount of hours required, etc. The courses should be categorized according to a program they belong to, and according to the overlapping constraints.
also, it should be possible to enter data about available resources – rooms and their capacity, then lecturers and possibly their availability.
This type of entering data is a typical work for a course administrator and he program director.

A proposal for a course plan and its scheduling can be done by a lecturer. A lecturer can specify in which period the course will be running, and CourseScheduler will provide him/her automatically a proposal for the schedule. The lecturer can then change the proposal, and can check the possible overlaps with other courses.

It should be possible to import results/proposals from a previous schedule

b) Generation of the schedule
CourseScheduler should be able to generate a proposal for a given course with the given constrains.
Also CourseScheduler should be able to generate a schedule for a particular person (or program) that includes selected courses.

b) Presentation
CourseScheduler should be able to present different data on requires – and export them to a text and to the excel format

Technology used:
The system should be web-based and ideally no software would be needed to install on the clients

The users:
several categories of users should be allowed
User/student – should have a possibility to enter his/hers data and read his/her schedule or a schedule for a combination of the courses
