Title: Analyzing Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) in open source products
Subject: Computer Science
Level: Advanced
Description: This thesis would investigate the implementing Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) using open source products. The thesis work will explore different solution areas (for example; Integration (EAI, SOA), e-Business (Portals)) that are available within Open Source products (e.g. JBoss). After exploration of these areas, different function blocks (for example; SOA (Registry, SOA Governance management…) within that solution area would be identified & investigated and how they could be implemented using Open Source Products. Function blocks selection would be made using specific criteria which includes, the function blocks should be defined by the reference architecture of the decided solution area, function blocks should have low IT costs (from the current implementation) and what would be the consequences of implementing the function block within the system. Finally a feasibility report regarding the impact of usage of Open Source products (e.g. JBoss) within an organization would be compiled, covering the cost effectiveness of Open Source products against Proprietary products. It would also cover the competence required within an organization to support these Open Source software products. In future, other IT-suppliers could use this research work as a template to calculate the implementation of the decided functions blocks in their IT landscape.
