One of our products is Saga Property TM, which is a sales management system for real estate industry. This is a web-based application, which can be accessed by sales agents over the Internet in order to keep track of properties, associated owners and to perform business transactions of sales/purchases/leases on the real estate. In addition this system interacts with external systems such as real estate web sites (for advertisements) and national property registry in Iceland (for retrieval of correct information from an official source).
As this system becomes available for more and more real estate agencies, and its installations are distributed among various locations, there is a potential in having an internal exchange network among the users (sales agents) of this application, where they can exchange information on properties they offer. The main function of this network is a property search, where a sales agent would specify search parameters and see if other sales agents are offering something that matches those parameters.
This feature was already implemented as a module (called DarkPool) in Saga Property TM product; however it satisfies only basic requirements of retrieving search results, and receiving them by an email in an offline mode.
The goal of this thesis work is to investigate from a research perspective (for better search engine performance, improved database structure, smaller amount of data sent over a network) on how to implement the functions in this module.
