Title: Tool integration using OSLC

Description: One of the challenges faced by industry in developing software systems is the integration of different tools that are used in the development process. There are different types of tools that are used during the life cycle of a software product; such as tools for the management of requirement, architecture management, version and configuration management, and deployment and automation. The issue is that tools that are used to manage different activies and development artifacts in the life cycle of a product are usually from different vendors with no or loose integration. Even in cases where two tools are integrated by, for example, by implementing appropriate and specific import and export mechanisms, if a company decides to replace one tool with another (e.g., when a tool provider goes bankrupt and no support is provided anymore, due to licensing issues, ...), the integration mechanism will not work anymore. Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) is an answer to such integration issues which provides a standard for tool integration.

In this thesis work, a careful study of OSLC and comparing with other tool integration mechanisms is going to be done. In the next phase, an OSLC adapter will be implemented for a requirement management and analysis tool.


* This thesis work is suggested for two students.


Prerequisites: Java, experience with Eclipse. Familiarity with model-based development and UML is a plus.
