Title: Applying Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis Methods in Embedded Systems Design

Description: In many types of embedded systems the applications are implemented both as software and as hardware executable units. For such systems, a partitioning between software and hardware is important since the system performance and other properties depend heavily on the hardware/software deployment. There are many requirements and constraints which lead to a number of required characteristics (properties) of components which then would lead to decision to deploy components either as hardware or software components. This lead to an optimisation problem based on a multiple criteria.
The criteria can be of different types, some of them not precisely defined, or omitted, and some of them having mutual dependencies. A possible approach in providing the result is to use multiple criteria decision analysis (MCBA) methods.

This work will include an analysis of the existing multiple criteria decision analysis (MCBA) tools/methods. This would require to identify a number of MCBA tools - to do a systematic research and then classification of the tools, and some analysis for its use in partitioning decision.
