Title: Time predictability of GPU kernel on an HSA compliant platform

Description: Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) appear to be emerging as a de-facto industry standard for hyper parallel computing and is the foundation for the heterogeneous computing modules developed and used in next generation embedded systems. Although previously shown to work for many applications the HSA Runtime stack has an unknown real-time behavior that this project target to identify and quantify while maintaining the fault tolerance needed for space operations.

This thesis, which is a cooperation between Bruhnspace AB and MDH within the research profile DPAC, will empirically investigate the real-time properties and bottlenecks of the first generation HSA-chips and the current Linux-based software-stack that support execution of HSA-applications expressed in the intermediate language HSAIL on such chips.

This thesis work is for 2 students with experience in Linux-kernel deployment and embedded systems performance analysis. There is a possibility to extend the academic thesis work with a summer internship (with salary) with our industrial partner. For the right student there is also a possibility to enroll as a PhD-student in the research profile DPAC after conclusion of the thesis.
