Title: Touch gestures for process graphics

Description: The development of control systems and its corresponding techniques are under constant development [Andersson]. One such area that is currently being researched are alternative ways to interact with the control systems [Müller, Koskinen]. The work involving interaction with a control system is today typically executed by operators of the system in a so called operator room, where desktop computers are used to interact with the process [design to engage, Müller]. Running the control systems on desktop computers often mean that the operators are limited to interaction with the system by using a keyboard, mouse and screens.

One possible alternative to keyboard and mouse interaction could be to use a touch screen where the users would interact with the system through touch gestures. There might even exist use cases when a touch screen could be a better solution than how it is used today. Since the current graphical user interface focus on mouse and keyboard interaction, some of the common design elements and interaction cues that are in use right now are less natural on touch screens. Therefore, if such use cases exists, the graphical user interface of the control system needs to be redesigned and corresponding touch gestures explored to withhold and improve an efficient and delightful interaction for the operator.
