  • [ 5 ] I learned a lot of new things (for e.g. how to properly document the code, how to start the project, and how to avoid most common mistakes (e.g. not having good design description))
  • [ 5 ] I was scared at begin, but now I feel lucky what I had been a member of this course.
  • [ 5 ] This course was one of the best that I had on faculty.
  • [ 5 ] Great new experience
  • [ 5 ] A very interesting course
  • [ 4 ] Good experiance
  • [ 4 ] Very nice experience, but a lot of work in a small period of time, so I had to neglect my other responsibilities.
  • [ 3 ] To much work. Still very good experience.
  • [ 4 ] This course was a very good idea. Hope the next generations of students will enjoy it, too.
  • [ 3 ] To much work for such a shor time, but idea of distributed courses is great
2
The course has fulfilled my expectations (not at all=1, more than fulfilled=5)

  • [ 5 ] Actually I got was more than I was expecting. It's hard to tell now what I really did expect, but I expected a lot less effort from the steering than I recieved, we've recieved all guidelines (e.g. example documents for all of our ouput was given a lot before time)
  • [ 5 ] excellent!
  • [ 5 ] I didn't expect such tipe of organization, but it was really great, and i must say that it was extremly good.
  • [ 5 ] more than fullfilled
  • [ 3 ] Didn't learn too many new technologies as the course title in croatian promised.
  • [ 5 ] I've get exactly what I expected. Nothing more and nothing less.
  • [ 5 ] i didn't expect much:)
  • [ 3 ] Assigned to a non-distributed project, didn't have a chance to work with students from Sweeden.Didn't learn as much as I have hoped to.

  • [ 5 ] I always like it that way :)
  • [ 4 ] Sometimes borring.
  • [ 5 ] It was very good, the best part of lectures are advices how to manage distance and this type of projects. I really liked that part.
  • [ 4 ] good plan in general
  • [ 5 ] The best way to do it
  • [ 4 ] Best way to learn something is to do it. Now that our project has failed we really understand what the guest lecturers were talking about.
  • [ 2 ] Presentations for all 5 teams lasted forever.
  • [ 4 ] At first there were some lectures to introduce us to the whole concept, and later "we came to the scene :)"
  • [ 4 ] not enough time (course duration too short) for complex projects
  • [ 4 ] Concept is great, but some projects were to complicated for given time (my opinion).

  • [ 5 ] I'm very thankfull to all the steering since all the information were given well before time, and well before we've even start to think about the problem. That narrowed allot of questions that would otherwise rise. It's common here in Croatia to recieve all the info at the last moment, and it was great to be able to avoid changing plans in the last minute :)
  • [ 4 ] It was very cool that we alavays have everything on one place. Sometimes some information was missing (documentation more examples).
  • [ 3 ] It was very good, but some problems with user id:s from the beginning. Also there is still problems to execute distributed programs (server on orson and a client on any computer in västerås).
  • [ 3 ] Could have been better. Not that good information about the CVS-server (login/user/how to use).
  • [ 4 ] The original project specifications were vague, but I suppose that in a way helped enhance the difficulties of working in a distributed way
  • [ 5 ] everything worked well
  • [ 4 ] FERWeb rocks! :)
  • [ 5 ] Nothing to comment here.
  • [ 2 ] web part was excellent, 2 is because of CVS server (orson.rasip.fer.hr) which was a constant source of daily troubles - troubles commiting/updating source were a daily occurance
  • [ 4 ] Great web site, lot's of information, course planned in advanced -OK.
  • [ 5 ] It was OK

  • [ 5 ] I've really learned more than I was expecting. Maybe the biggest thing was that proper organization of work, expecially the one that connects two persons is extremly important. If both sides know exactly what should their input/output look like then there will be no problems. Otherwise, if there is at least one part not well enough planned, that could lead to a disaster :)
  • [ 5 ] I learned much more than i expected. I learn lot of team working, good organization of work, time and documentation importance.
  • [ 4 ] A lot about croatians and differences between cultures in general. And also a lot of technical stuff.
  • [ 5 ] very much
  • [ 4 ] Mainly how hard it is to work distributed
  • [ 3 ] I learned about group work, but not about some technologies I was interested in.
  • [ 4 ] I've learned something about working in larger group (coordination and stuff), and something about technologies that my group worked with
  • [ 4 ] not so much technical stuff
  • [ 3 ] Didn't learn so much about distributed development.
  • [ 4 ] very much about Bluetooth

  • [ 5 ] I think that all lectures were very good.
  • [ 4 ] I usually don't like lectures, but it think that it was very important to have a lectures.
  • [ 5 ] Very interesting lectures, specially about pervasive computing, though I feel that one fell outside the scope of the class
  • [ 5 ] interesting
  • [ 3 ] First give the assignments (first week) so design and everything can start. Then give the lectures.
  • [ 3 ] Relativelly OK...
  • [ 5 ] because they were short (excluding the EJB saga:)
  • [ 4 ] OK

  • [ 5 ] A lot of important ideas. :) It was really good to have lecture like that one before the project really started since it helped to avoid some common mistakes that would otherwise just happen. (e.g. 'Don't overdoit'
  • [ 4 ] He gave as very important advices.
  • [ 6 ] I wasn't attending unfortunatley.
  • [ 5 ] Very interesting
  • [ 4 ] Interesting and funny - that's what a lecture is supposed to be like.
  • [ 4 ] Stig gave us a lot of usable informations for working in groups.
  • [ 5 ] we wan't more lectures like that!
  • [ 3 ] haven't seen it
  • [ 5 ] Concise, brief, very much to the point.
  • [ 4 ] OK

  • [ 5 ] It was really excellent. At the beggining I actually thought "I don't want to listen about how good Ericsson is :)", but when he start explaining his idea, and the lecture I changed my mind. He was a great person and if possible I think you should invite him next year also. He gave us some really important tips since othervise it would take much more time to understand that it is not problem in us for the "strange" behaviour of the other side, it's just their behaviour. We're "strange" to them as much as they are to us (e.g. it's hard not to work over weekend here in Croatia :) ).
  • [ 5 ] He was very funny, and interesting.
  • [ 6 ] I wasn't attending unfortunatley.
  • [ 5 ] he was a very good aggitator
  • [ 5 ] Very very interesting
  • [ 5 ] Interesting and funny - that's what a lecture is supposed to be like.
  • [ 4 ] Also, we got some good advices.
  • [ 5 ] the same as above
  • [ 3 ] haven't seen it
  • [ 5 ] This guy was great, the most interesting presentation in whole course.
  • [ 4 ] OK

  • [ 5 ] The idea looked better and better with time :) Not much at the beggining, but at the end...
  • [ 5 ] It was very cool. :)
  • [ 5 ] Very good project, designed to make it possible to split the work between the two countries.
  • [ 4 ] Very much work, and very stressful we felt.
  • [ 5 ] good but hard to have complete control over due to the fact that the project was distributed, not only between sweden and croatia but also local in sweden and croatia.
  • [ 3 ] Quite hard but I guess that's what the real life is like.
  • [ 4 ] No comment.
  • [ 2 ] Some project were to complicated and to much demanding

  • [ 5 ] We we're quite prepared for the meeting. The only problem was that sometimes we haven't prepared enough technically (e.g. bring WebCam, check for the TCR), so in two occasions we've had a rather limited meeting with a delay, but it was our fault that I know about know, and so I can count on that one when I'll have to have "real" meeting for money :)
  • [ 5 ] Very useful, and it was really cool to have them. It was realy cool organization that we have one our of meeting. I think that without that part our team would never make it.
  • [ 3 ] The meetings were pretty good, but we solved more issues by email than at the meetings.
  • [ 4 ] Should have had more video conferences
  • [ 4 ] Good but most of the communication was done over icq that proved to be an excellent tool
  • [ 4 ] Fun experiance
  • [ 3 ] Good for my English. Not too productive but faster than chat.
  • [ 4 ] Pretty good. E-mail, video-conferrencing, ...
  • [ 3 ] we didn't have many of those (non-distributed team)
  • [ 3 ] ...in Croatian, non-distributed project

  • [ 5 ] Sometimes they provided support in times that they are most deffinitly are not requested to provide support :)
  • [ 5 ] Very cool. The best part was that we always had a full suport.
  • [ 3 ] In our team we didn't need to have so much advising and support, but were it was needed, it was good.
  • [ 4 ] It was a little hard to get a hold of Rikard, but when we did, it worked fine
  • [ 4 ] good
  • [ 5 ] Rikard answered all our questions
  • [ 4 ] Whenever we needed something they made it possible.
  • [ 3 ] As expected...
  • [ 3 ] didn't have any contacts with advisors
  • [ 4 ] It was very helpful

  • [ 5 ] I felt good in the team there were no personal issues, not even any large problems with work.
  • [ 5 ] Our group was very cool, and our team leader has a good job organizatin, so everybody worked part in which they are the best. It was really pleasure working with my group.
  • [ 4 ] Worked very well, but sometimes some team members were a bit over entusiastical over the time plan.
  • [ 3 ] Locally in Sweden the team worked very well. In croatia it seemed like one team member pulled the biggest load, with another one not doing anything.
  • [ 4 ] Some difficulties because the proportíons of work wasn´t equal due to that not everybody did their part to 100%
  • [ 4 ] One team member didn't do anything
  • [ 3 ] Not so successful but a good experience.
  • [ 5 ] Very well coordinated... Everyone was doing his job
  • [ 4 ] could been much better
  • [ 2 ] good atmosphere, but not so successful, the work was n't distributed well
  • [ 4 ] It was very nice working with others

  • [ 5 ] My personal oppinion is that they can work very well and that they can have great ideas. The only problem is that you must know what are they working hours (what is actually excellent) and count on them. Sometimes you should let them talk (what is not that easy becasuse of the Croatian (mediteranian) style of communication).
  • [ 5 ] At the beggining, each part was little afraided, but now, it is really sad that this is over, but this project will always stay in my heart.
  • [ 4 ] Our team defined a clear border between swedish part and cratoian part early, so many issues never came up. But when we need to talk to each other we did, and solved the problem,
  • [ 3 ] The importance of communication was underestimated at the start of the class.
  • [ 4 ] Overall a great sucess
  • [ 3 ] We should have tried to communicate more effectively.
  • [ 6 ] I suppose very good. Can't really comment on this :(
  • [ 3 ] non-distributed project, didn't cooperate with MdH students
  • [ 6 ] I was in zagreb's local group

  • [ 4 ] It was a bit much than I was expecting, but it wasn't too hard. It never is if you're doing what you like - programming :)
  • [ 3 ] I really can't talking about work, because it was pleasure. :)
  • [ 4 ] the last weeks was a lot of work
  • [ 5 ] Another week and I would have died.
  • [ 4 ] Coding, documenting, ... lot of work
  • [ 5: ] ) You don't want to get me started on that.
  • [ 5 ] too much work for such a short time, too much...
  • [ 4 ] It was average, but very new to me.

  • [ 5 ] The TCR was really excellent. It provided us with all that is needed for a meeting. The live video stream was great too. The PC version was OK. Netmeeting was great :) We couldn't have done it without it (or some other simmilar kind of software for screen sharing :) ).
  • [ 5 ] Equipment was excellend. Sometimes, it would be better that we didn't need to spent time on tuning.
  • [ 5 ] With respect to that it was the first time for the course, it was excellent!
  • [ 3 ] At one time we didn't succeed to connect with the video conference equipment, otherwise it worked very well.
  • [ 4 ] The CVS worked fine once we got our passwords set up. The video conference system was down one of the very few times we had scheduled though, which was less than great.
  • [ 4 ] some minor difficulties
  • [ 3 ] some technical problems
  • [ 4 ] Video is the fastest way to communicate, but available only once every two weeks. Countless hours were lost in chat or writing an email.
  • [ 4 ] OK
  • [ 2 ] Orson was difficult to handle
  • [ 4 ] It was OK, except some problems with CVS.
16
The most I like in this course was
  • All dates, requests and form of output were known well in advance. There were no "last minute changes" (e.g. You must also do some kind of document :) ) and that was really great. All persons from the steering were easy to contact with and it was possible to talk with them about all the problems and even change request a little bit so that it's easier to implement it and to finish it as planned.
  • team work...You know, during the study we hadn't course like this, and I love it.
  • excellend organization and it was very cool sharing the time with other cultures. I learned that in Sweden is very nice. There people have their free time. They have a lounch break, and you always know when you can count on them. I think that style of life is very good. I would like to spent some time in Sweden on my vacation days because i think that they know what vacation is. (And of course here in Zagreb, this year we haven't had any snow :) and i like to see it).
  • "meeting" student from a different country.
  • It gave you a new perspective on the difficulties of working in a distributed way and definately highlighted the importance of communication from day one and a SOLID commonly developed design that both teams follow.
  • To learn about different cultures, and experience how difficult it was to coordinate the work between the swedish and croatian side
  • The experiance gained from working distibuted
  • I have learned something about working in larger groups, and met other culture (Sweden).
  • Teamwork between different cultures... and good working atmosphere.
  • Distance working.
  • Teleconferences in English
  • That I found out that it takes a lot of work to make something work as you want it to work.
  • The concept and the team spirit.
17
What can be improved in the course?
  • Real face-to-face contact for at least one day (~8-10 hours) in ~2-3 week of project. It would provide us with a lot of information about the other side that could be helpfull in future contact and way of comunication. We still don't know very much about each other :)

    It's probably not possible :)
  • More guest lecturing...
  • Maybe only, to try recommended the teams that it would be cool to have a testing time. It is very usefull.
  • Maybe some kind of individual self evaluation at the end of the course which has to be handed in to get a grade. There every student can write about his experience about the project, his roll in the team, his impression of the course and what he himself think about the outcome. I think that this would give every course participant an oppurtunity to reflect over his own learning.
  • Maybe projects with a little less demanding programming side of the project.
  • I thought the course lived up to my expectations and therfore there isnt so much than can be improved
  • simpler projects but let them require some more communication
  • Start the project earlier so we don't have to speend the Christmass eve on the computer.
  • Don't have idea. It's very good as it is right now.
  • more time
  • Availability of tehnical resources.
  • More lecture about cultural difference, and something more about project menagement and team leadership
  • Easier projects, better equipment for distributed work (Orson),final grade must not depend only on project results.
