Presentations

General instructions

We have two presentations during the projects and one final presentation. These presentations are mandatory for everyone (i.e., you should attend all presentations, not just that of your own group).

Typically, several of the team members take part in each presentation. Our only requirement is that each student must participate in at least one of the three presentation.

Remember that presentations are one aspect that is graded in the project! Communication is a very important part of any project. We really want you to get some practical experience with preparing the contents of a presentation, and making good-looking and pedagogical slides. Think about what information is interesting to the audience, and keep the presentation at a level where it can be understood also by someone without previous knowledge about the project.

When preparing a presentation, think about what is interesting for the other groups to hear. Information that is the same to all groups (that you have weekly steering group meetings on Mondays) should be mentioned quickly, if at all, while information specific to the project should be emphasized.

Respect the time limit! This is very important!

The presentation slides should be available in svn/git after the presentation. The deadline for this is the same day as the presentation (having it in svn already before the presentation is not required, but a good idea in case you run into computer problems).

Project plan and requirements

Each group should make a 20 min presentation, plus 5 min for questions and changing groups.

This presentation should describe how the project is organized and your plan for achieving the desired result. It should also present the activities you have performed to capture the client's requirements, and what they have resulted in (i.e., it corresponds roughly to the project plan document).

The overall purpose of this presentation is to show that the design and implementation work is going in the right direction. The list below contains some areas to cover:

Note that you don't have to present things in this order. You may e.g. want to show the demo first and then explain how it works.

A general hint: Don't forget that most of the audience have very little previous knowledge of your project. Most of them have seen your previous presentation, but they may not remember much. In any case, a short reminder of the overall purpose of the project is a good idea.

Regarding the demonstration, think about if it is best presented by screenshots, a recorded video or a live demo. Of course, you should rehearse beforehand exactly what you will show, to avoid embarrassing situations, and prepare a plan B such as screenshots in your slides. Make sure (the latest version of) the slides are in SVN in case your computer crashes, etc.
