Ph.D. Courses Organization

This document describes the standards used at MdH/IDt  to start  and to administrate a Ph.D. course.

How to organize a Ph.D. course?

  1. Make a course plan.
The course plan shortly describes the aim  of the course, its contents, and the course implementation. It also defines number of points, and the possible grades. See the template for the course plan.
  2. Approve the course
The Ph.D. course must be approved by the Dean of graduate studies (Studierektor FU)
  3. Register the course
The course is registered in the LADOK database with a code name cg1xxx, where xxx  is the next free even  number.
  4. Create the course home page.
The page is path is http://www.idt.mdh/phd/courses/cg1xxx

How to start a course?

  1. Announce the course
Announce the course via MhD/IDt WWW-pages.  Send an e-mail with the announcement to the places of interest.
  2. Register the students
Register the students in the LADOK database.

Where to place information about the course?

Information about postgraduate study at MdH is paled under http://www.idt.mdh/phd directory. By default all the documents are in HTML or PDF format, and accessable from the Internet. The internal documents, can, however be not accessable from the Interenet. They are placed under internals directory.

The top directory: /www/idt/phd

The structure:

phd
   /guidelines
   /thesis
   /internals
             /cgtemplates
             /any_directory
   /courses
           /cg1000
           /cg1002

The phd directory includes the following files:
index.htm - the main page or a symbolic link to the main page. The main page contains links to list of courses, list of guidelines, and a general description about the courses.
phd_courses.htm - includes a list of all available courses

guidelines directory includes all guidelines and standards related to Ph.D. education
index.htm is the main page for the guidelines

internals directory include internal document not public accessible, but only by idt group. This directory can include any subdirectity structure and files. These files are normally accessible via the file system.
The cgtemplates subdirectory includes templete files for a new course

cg1xxx directories are course directories. A cg1xxx directory includes files that describe the course and these files are accessible via WWW. The following files are present:
index.htm - the main page or a symbolic link to the main page.
Any other files describing the course.

internals directory include the files for the internal use, and they are not public files. Any file and substructure can be placed under this structure.

How to create a new cg1xxx structure?

Copy internals/cgtemplates structure to cg1xxx. Edit the underlying files. Add a link to the new course in the  phd_courses.htm  file on the course top level.

Some general rules

All documents are written in english.
