Title: Micro-services and digital servitization in the heavy-duty vehicle industry
Subject: Produktutveckling, Produktion, Industriell ekonomi - Produktionssystem, Innovation och design, Computer science
Level: Advanced
Description:

The purpose of the thesis is to examine the possible ways to improve the development and implementation of micro-services on a simulation-driven platforms in off-road transport applications in the heavy-duty vehicle industry. Based on the analysis, the thesis could propose micro-service development framework for the industrial companies in the heavy-duty vehicle industry. The thesis could apply digital servitization, servitization, business model innovation, related areas to frame and analyse the topic.

The thesis will be guided by following research questions:

  • Which micro-services are important in autonomous electric vehicles in the heavy-duty vehicle industry?
  • How can large manufacturing companies develop and implement micro-services based on a simulation-driven platform?

The thesis employs qualitative case study research approach and data collection will be done through semi-structured interviews, workshops, observations, and documentation. In the initial phase, a systematic literature review will take place for understanding the existing knowledge, research gaps, and potential questions to ask in the study. The thesis work will be performed as part of the research project called TRUST-SOS (Trusted Site Optimisation Solutions), where partner company is Volvo CE and BTH. More information is available at MDU webpage. The empirical data collected from Volvo CE during the thesis work will be used by the researchers in the TRUST-SOS project for further analysis. If there is any possibility for a research publication, you would be included as co-authors.
