Title: Zero waste manufacturing in collaboration with Leax
Subject: Produktutveckling, Produktion, Industrial Systems, Applied Artificial Intelligence
Level: Advanced
Description:

Problem description:

Major problem with chip accumulation, leading to potential disruptions in subsequent operations or entanglement in the conveyor system, affecting production efficiency.

Overall objective:

Implement an image recognition system to detect chip tangles on products and promptly alert operators to prevent production disturbances.

Reseach questions:

-What hardware and software components are required to effectively implement image recognition for detecting chip tangles?

-How can we ensure the accuracy and reliability of the detection system under different operational conditions.

Evaluation metrics:

-Accuracy and success rate of the image recognition system in identifying chip tangles.

-Response time between detection and operator notification.

-Reduction in production downtime due to chip jamming.

Envisaged solution:

Install a camera connected to a Raspberry Pi or Arduino within the machine cell to monitor parts exiting the turning machine. The system will automatically detect unwanted chop tangles and send real-time alerts to operators for immediate action.
