Title: Evaluation of Various Automotive E/E Architectures through Communication Patterns
Subject: Computer science, Embedded systems, Software engineering
Level: Advanced
Description: The automotive domain is rapidly developing towards increased connectivity and higher levels of automation. This development is enabled by system architecture that can provide capabilities for these functionalities while also supporting such system properties as security and safety. There are several types of architectures present in this domain characterized by distributed or centralized functionality allocation as well as functionality grouping into corresponding domains. Each type of the architecture contains common architecture solutions that could be mapped to related safety and security requirements. Such solutions are especially important in the communication area where re-use on the concept level could be at its highest. The goal of this thesis is to investigate communication patterns in automotive E/E architectures and their usage for architecture evaluation from safety and security points of view.

The work includes: analyses of existing architectures in the automotive domain, derivation of corresponding communication patterns and their mapping to safety and security requirements provoked by e.g., autonomous functionality, increased connectivity.
